Defense Attorneys Against OVI/DUI Charges

Being arrested for or charged with operating under the influence, officially referred to in Ohio as Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI), does not automatically make you guilty. It also does not automatically make you a criminal. You have rights, including the right to a dedicated DUI defense lawyer.

If you have been charged with a DUI/OVI in the Dayton or Montgomery County area, call Sebaly Shillito + Dyer. Our legal team has extensive experience with these types of cases. We are recognized as Superior DUI Attorneys by The National Advocacy for DUI Defense, LLC (NAFDD), an honor bestowed upon only those who are accomplished and skilled in this field. We will put our talents to work for you, providing you with the strongest defense possible.

Understanding Ohio OVI Penalties

Many people may not foresee the extent of consequences that accompany an OVI. Penalties include:

  • One year license suspension for a first offense
  • Heavy fines and driver's license reinstatement fees
  • Potential alcohol education and treatment starting with the first offense
  • Mandatory three days in jail and up to six months at the discretion of the court
  • Possible ignition interlock devices or restricted license plates for the first offense

In Ohio, drivers with blood alcohol content (BAC) of .08 percent or higher can be charged with an OVI. Drivers who are caught with a BAC of .17 or higher and underage drivers can also face harsher penalties. Individuals charged with felony OVI or a vehicular assault/homicide may also face prison time. And, those with commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) can lose their very livelihoods.
