A man in Ohio is facing serious charges after getting involved in a deadly crash while he was allegedly intoxicated.
The incident started when a second man, who was 37 years old, got into a minor accident. It is unknown who he hit, but it damaged his Jeep Compass. The damage was extensive enough to disable the vehicle.
The man got out of the Compass and began looking at the damage on the side of the road. While he was doing so, a second man in a Dodge Ram pickup truck slammed into the Jeep. The impact knocked the small SUV into its owner, and he suffered fatal injuries. Though emergency crews rushed him to University Hospitals, he did not survive.
Behind the wheel of the Dodge Ram was a 37-year-old man. Police say that he got out of the truck and started to walk from the crash site. However, the police found him not long after. They first took him to MetroHealth for medical treatment, though his injuries were minor. After the medical team released him, they took him to the Cuyahoga County Jail.
The whole event happened right around 3:00 a.m. Many drunk driving accidents do happen after dark, but the reports do not give the specific reasons that the police think the man was impaired.
Those reports do note that the driver has not officially been charged and his impairment is merely suspected at this time. That said, cases like these can lead to some very serious, life-altering charges, and those involved need to make sure they understand their legal defense options.
